We had a pretty sour day yesterday with the Rams getting crushed by the 49ers at home. We like teams getting points at home, but that didn’t work out at all. After the first quarter it was all 49ers.
The one game that didn’t look great on paper was the Yanks not favored at home. We took the blue jays on the road at -125 and they trumped the Yankees 4-0. It was Mario Rivera’s last home game and he went off with a defeat.
This weekend has some great plays. We’ll go over today’s picks first and then we will cover the weekend’s football action.
The first play of the day is in baseball. We are getting to a place where teams are in or they are out. Some are fighting for position, but by this time of the year you kind of know where teams stand in the playoff hunt. There is a pretty big game tonight between the Pittsburgh Pirates visiting the Cincinnati Reds. We like the Reds on the moneyline of -130. This game will most likely be one that sizes up the wild card playoff game. We’ll see tonight which direction each team will want to take their playoff run.
Our one soccer pick for the day is between the Sporting Kansas City and Philadelphia Union. We like the visiting team which is Kansas City at -175. These are two teams that aren’t that great, but KC is definitely the better squad and should be able to find the back of the net.
We do have one College football pick for today. San Jose St. has been playing tough opponents and not getting crushed. This means they can win their game against Utah State. We would say it’s a stretch for them to win, but with the 10 points it looks a lot better. You can go bigger on the spread, but you may want to take 30% an put it on the +290 moneyline.
Tomorrow carries a lot of sweet football action. Last week carried a ton of blowouts. We may not see that many games with those scores as we start some inter-conference battles. However, we won’t shy away from big spreads where we think it could get nasty.
Miami is looking pretty tough this year and South Florida does not. Although the 19 points is a bit deep, we like the Hurricanes to take on an interstate rivalry and put them to bed early.
It’s hard to go against Alabama at home. They are 14 point favorites, but we think they lay the wood on Mississippi. It could be tight in the first half, but then the Tide will roll in the second.
Is anything going to stop the Oregon Ducks? How about a 37 point spread? Nope. We like the Ducks at home giving 37 points against California. Oregon runs a high paced offense and if everything is in line this could be a 50 point win.
We’ll get our NFL picks started with the Indianapolis Colts giving -9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We liked them last week against the 49ers and this week, Trent Richardson should go off. The spread shouldn’t be a factor.
We don’t think the Lions are as good as their record shows. The Bears are definitely legit and should be able to not only win with the points they are getting, they may actually win outright. Take the Bears +3.
The Kansas City Defense is definitely good. We like the Chiefs -5 against the struggling Giants. This could be a tight finish, but the Chiefs should be able to win by a touchdown.
We like the San Diego Chargers getting points at home against the Cowboys. Although the Boys look decent, Philip Rivers is also getting it done. Take the +2 and walk away.
The last game on the plate for Sunday is on the Denver Broncos at home. We think the Eagles will score, but Peyton Manning will score a lot more. He is playing some great football. The eagles defense will throw some pressure at him, but that won’t stop them from -11.
